The True Believer

With my recent departure from the frenzy of the upcoming football season, I have gone back to a passion of reading books. Most recently I was given a copy of "The True Believer" by Eric Hoffer which was written in the early 1950"s. In the Author's preface he says, "This book deals with some peculiarities common to all mass movements, social revolutions or nationalist movements. It does not maintain that all movements are identical, but they share certain essential characteristics which give them a family likeness".

The amazing part of this entire read is how it pertains to today as well as the history of our world. He goes on "There is in us a tendency to locate the shaping forces of our existence outside ourselves. Success and failure are unavoidably related in our minds with the state of things around us. Hence it is that people with a sense of fulfillment think it a good world and would like to conserve it as it is, while the frustrated favor radical change" This is truly amazing and spot on with today's social changes. Along with a breakdown of the Bolshevik revolution and Hitlers rise to power it addresses simple theories like "For men to plunge headlong into an undertaking of vast change, they must be intensely discontented yet not destitute, and they must have the feeling that by the possession of some potent doctrine, infallible leader or some new technique they have the access to a source of irresistible power".

I am entranced with this writing and highly recommend it to all. A simple analysis on the history of mass movements gives one the insight to today's society and to ourselves. "Men of thought seldom work well together, whereas between men of action there is usually an easy camaraderie. Teamwork is rare in intellectual or artistic undertakings, but common and almost indispensable among men of action."

A great read, The True Believer by Eric Hoffer. I highly recommend it!

Good-bye NFL

Roger Goodell announced today that he was reinstating Michael Vick into the NFL after a 2 year suspension (and jail term). Vick will be allowed to practice and participate in the first two preseason games but cannot play in the regular season until October. All of this is subject to some NFL team offering Mr. Vick a job.

Mr. Goodell said that playing in the NFL was a privilege and that Mr. Vick has earned a right to another chance………I guess that is what justice and rehabilitation is all about…but as far as I am concerned he had his chance and decided to partake in an illegal dog fighting (and killing) ring…… so that should be it…….in light of Mr. Goodell’s decision I am choosing NOT to give the NFL another chance and I am finished! ..........HAVING FANS IS A PRIVILEGE …..one that I will not extend to Mr. Vick or the NFL.

For the past 50 years I was a die hard Chicago Bears fan….I remember watching the first Superbowl and I have attended 4 of them over the years. I have also attended many Tampa Bay games including the NFC championship in Philadelphia and the Sunday NFL package was a must ….that included 20 weeks a year where friends would gather to watch the games and cheer on our favorite teams. All of this comes to an end today….the day the cheering stopped…..the day that Mr. Goodell and the NFL decided once again that it was ok to allow criminals back into the league .........where it is a privilege to participate.

Good-by NFL

"The Old Geezer"

I watched the start of the final round of the British Open and became amazed and inspired by the accomplishments of "the old geezer" Tom Watson. I am a believer that all things happen for a reason and this 60 year old golfer has become an inspiration to many.

We all have inherent skills and how we use them is the difference between success and failure. Persistence and determination will always prevail. A child hood friend of mine, Ray Conmey, sent me a video clip this morning that really hit home......"Finish Strong" Click here: Finish Strong Movie - NC , proof again that going the little bit extra lifts you above the rest. The fact that Tom Watson is leading the British Open after 54 holes is historical.....when you listen to him he will tell you "I have a game plan". Regardless of the outcome, his accomplishments and continued passion for the game he loves so much is amazing. Another side story is one of the other players Ross Fisher, who is awaiting a call to find out if his wife went into labor with their first child. He starts off the day with birdies on the first two holes to take the lead....what do you suppose is going on inside of him?

Control, passion, determination and dedication are qualities that these golfers display in their quest to achieve golf history. A good lesson for us to carry in our daily endeavours. Regardless of our chosen paths in life, we can all carry a lesson with us. In spite of ones age, commitment, passion, determination , practice and knowledge will enhance our inherent skills and allow us to achieve our goals and our dreams......This "old geezer" has enjoyed the lesson and will continue to try and "finish strong".............thanks Ray!

Hot time......Summer in the city

WOW!.......mid July and the "Dog days of summer" are upon us. Time seems to be racing by and the world continues to be upside down economically.

Our new Halifax Plantation Branch office is open. My son TJ, Melody Travers, Eileen Williams and Mel Thibault share their time staffing the facility while Susan, Linda Tedesco and Joe Bilak are at the Roscommon office. Anyone who is in the area, feel free to stop in and meet everyone. Also, if you are on Facebook, do become a fan of Plantation Realty Services where all of our listings, associates and news is published daily. Over the next week or so, I will bring this page up to snuff and look forward to sharing our progress.

This concept of social networking is quite the rage. I for one find it interesting..... Although originally I was quick to declare that people should get a life….anyone that spent that much time on the various networks obviously had nothing better to do. In fact, it does give you the opportunity to market, share and develop your business while learning about your friends and associates' business as well. My good friend Dale Roberts conned me into giving a presentation with him on Social Networking….in our “good guy, bad guy” approach it was easy for me make fun of it and challenge the concept….unfortunately the joke was on me and it didn’t take long to understand the power of these networks. For those of you who share your work with me through Facebook and blogs....thanks….and for those of you who have already referred business and helped us through the transition, thanks.

I recently read a quote that put our current situation in perspective...." In the middle of every challenge lies an opportunity"...so simple but so true.....Don't continue to get beat up by the talking heads who only broadcast the depressing news...instead....continue to post and read the social and business networks where the "real world" is now spreading their experience and happiness.

Good Luck and Good Selling (because we are all selling in one sense or another)

The Transition

As of July 1, Halifax Plantation Realty will be outsourcing its Real Estate to my wife Susan's company, Plantation Realty Services (PRS). I will be joining her as Broker/Owner and will continue to operate the Halifax Plantation Realty office as a branch. My experience with Halifax has been most enjoyable primarily because of the friends and business associates I have met over the past 10 years. The office staff, some of whom have been here for over 30 years, have been a joy to work with. Their professionalism and dedication to the community is most admirable.

The new venture creates a level of excitement that I am truly looking forward to. It gives me an opportunity to join forces with my wife, Susan, and My son, TJ. Susan has owned and operated PRS for the past 9 years. Watching her develop the organization along with her dedication and work ethic has been inspirational. My son TJ has immersed himself into the business the last 5 years. It is enjoyable to watch his development into a Business Professional, a loving Father and Husband. I am blessed to have this opportunity as well as the opportunity to work along side her existing staff of Professionals.

In the coming months we will keep you posted as to our progress. We hope that you will remember us if you, or anyone you know, needs our services. As of July 1st, my new email address will change slightly to jarosik@plantationrealtyservices.com all other phone numbers and address's will remain the same.
